About Us + Contact Info

The Matador Group was formed in early 2010 by two young investors from a small town in central New Jersey in their quest to learn as much about financial markets as possible while keeping themselves amused while at work on their Bloomberg terminals. We began by teaching ourselves basic fundamental and technical security analysis and it was not long before we were making buy, sell, or hold calls to each other. This understanding was furthered as one of our members completed the first leg of his CFA exam and the other dove into analyst reports, earnings transcripts, and a collection of financial analysis books while waiting to enter law school. In time we started writing commentaries on our findings which were published here and on our personal profiles on SeekingAlpha.com (Jefferson Starship and The Wild Hog) so that we could judge the public opinion and use these criticisms to further our understanding.
We feel that we have been rather successful in this endeavor and have pushed each other to uphold high standards of work. Ideas, graphs, and articles are bounced back and forth at a feverish pace and we eventually decided that this knowledge must be put to work in something aside from our personal brokerage accounts. Recently we enlisted the help of two of our friends to launch The Matador Group Investment Club with the long term goal of converting this into a thriving fund, the proceedings of which will be well documented and monitored. Though our capital is currently limited, our members bring together an unparalleled work ethic, vivid enthusiasm, and an unbound intellectual capacity. Our approach is subject to change given market conditions and opportunities, but we plan to implement a long term capital appreciation approach with a significant proportion of our working capital going into defensive stocks that are priced below their intrinsic value, while allocating the remaining funds to riskier plays and holding some in cash. We are all in our early 20s so our risk aversion is low and in time we will find an index such as the Russel 1000 or the S&P 500 to measure our success.
